QVSource Starter QlikView Applications on GitHub

Modified on 2013/07/30 10:40 by chrisb Categorized as Uncategorized

Using GitHub

In an effort to improve how we deliver and maintain our Starter/Demo QlikView Applications, we are now using GitHub as a centralised place to manage them. You can find our GitHub site at https://github.com/qvsource.

GitHub allows us to keep applications organised and make changes in a way that enables you to understand the changes that we make in an easy and consistent way. You can also subscribe to particular applications, so as we make changes you can be immediately notified.

For most of our users, GitHub won't actually change how you get the starter applications. But for those of you who want to follow and understand any changes or even make suggestions for the QlikView script its a perfect way to present them.

What it Means to You

We're still going to have a dedicated page for each Starter application, but on each of these pages will be 2 links to them - 1 for latest zipped package and 1 for the repository.

The Latest Zipped Package

If you want to just get our applications, use them and aren't too worried if they change in the future, then all you need to do is click on the link to the Zip download. For example:

You will then download the latest zipped package. You then need to follow the Using the Zipped Package Download steps below.

Visit the Repository

If you want to track the changes, subscribe to an application as well as download it then you can visit the repository instead. For example:

You will then be taken to the Starter Application's repository page

On this homepage you'll be able to identify when files were last updated and download the latest zipped package.

If you click on a file's change note

You'll be able to see the changes made compared to the last version as well as a note about the change

You'll also be able to roll back to older versions of the zipped download and individual files.

Using the Zipped Package Download

When you download the zipped package, please make sure that you unzip it.

You will see the QlikView application as well as a prj folder along side it. If it's present, QlikView uses the contents of this folder to construct the application.

By unzipping the package first and then opening the application you can be sure that you're using the correct version of the application.

If you then Save As the application to where you want it, it will be saved there without the prj folder, which is how you're most likely to use your applications.
